Ways To Reduce Carbon Footprint Through Green Moving

  • 1 in 6 Americans move each year. Each mover uses 40 boxes on an average. The average move uses 60 cardboard boxes which is equivalent to a half-ton tree. This means that we are responsible for generating a staggering amount of waste.

The video titled as “Green Moving” explains the ways to reduce our carbon footprint through green moving. The following green moving steps can help in reducing the waste:

    • Commit to not buying new boxes: Instead of buying new boxes, rent packing boxes/moving kits. Make use of suitcases, laundry bags and plastic bins.

    • Buy reusable moving kits: As against the standard cardboard box which can be used once or twice, reusable moving kits can be used again and again.

    • Reuse, borrow or buy old cardboard: Look for online and newspaper ads for buying boxes to be reused.

    • Biodegradable replacements to packing items:

    • Green packing peanuts: Made from bio-plastics

    • A die-cut recycled paper split by a machine to form protective packaging, is another alternative to bubble wrap

    • Using Fibers: Use blankets, sheets, sweaters, T-shirts and towels for packing instead of packing and filling materials.
